Pulpotomies and pulpectomies also known as baby root canals are nerve treatments common in baby teeth. These treatments may become necessary if the tooth had extensive decay or a large traumatic injury.
A pulpotomy is a procedure where the coronal portion of the pulp is removed. A dental material is then placed in the crown portion and finished with a dental crown.
A pulpectomy is the complete removal of the nerve due to more extensive infection into the root of the tooth. This involves removal of the pulp from the roots, disinfecting the area, and placing dental materials into the roots then finishing with a crown.
These procedures allow us to save a baby tooth if possible while the adult tooth matures and has the time to erupt naturally.
